It is with profound sadness to let you know that our friend and former
coworker, Darrell Deeter, was killed in an accident at his home this past
Friday. Darrell worked at AVTEC from September 1984 till he retired in June
2005. While at AVTEC he served as an Automotive instructor, Power Plant Operator
instructor, Applied Tech Department Head, and the Assistant Director. Darrell
was a fervent supporter of AVTEC and its mission. After Darrell retired from
AVTEC in 2005 and moved back to California, he took a job at Saddleback
Community College teaching their automotive program. Though he enjoyed teaching
there, in the many times I spoke to him, as recently as two weeks ago, he would
tell me AVTEC was the best job he ever had. Darrell was a great friend to
everyone he knew, a devoted husband to his wife of 32 years, Beth, and a doting
father to their daughter Stephanie. I’ve already been in touch with Beth and she
would like AVTEC to set up a memorial scholarship for Applied Tech students in
Darrell’s name.
