In accordance with Governor Dunleavy's health mandate issued on March 16, AVTEC will cease on-campus instruction for two weeks, beginning at the end of the school day on March 18. All students must vacate the residence halls by Saturday, March 21. The Alaska Maritime Training Center has ceased on-campus course delivery for the remainder of the spring term.

In addition, all buildings, including the AVTEC gym and Student Services Center, are closed to the public effective March 17. Those who have business with the school should call (907) 224-6159 ahead of their visit to make arrangements before arrival.

The State of Alaska, Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the Alaska Vocational Technical Center consider the health and safety of our students, staff and the community as our highest priority. Currently, there are no known cases of COVID-19 at AVTEC or in Seward; this decision is in alignment with the Governor’s health mandate and is a cautionary measure to mitigate contact.

During the two weeks without students, staff will continue to report to work as scheduled.

We recognize that change can come rapidly and we will continue to evaluate and adjust accordingly. We are committed to keeping the public informed and will update the blog on our website at www.avtec.edu with the latest updates.

We encourage you to monitor the SOA DHSS website for the latest information on COVID-19 in Alaska at dhss.alaska.gov/dph/Epi/id/Pages/COVID-19/monitoring.aspx.

Please visit the CDC website for up to date recommendations and guidelines on limiting contact to protect others and personal self-care to stay healthy at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.
