Residential and Building Maintenance
Residential and Building Maintenance workers maintain and repair structures working on and around a wide variety of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Students in this course receive training in the maintenance/repair of wall finishing, doors and windows, basic electrical, plumbing, along with common appliance repair. The Residential and Building Maintenance course provides students with a wide variety of training which prepares them for entry-level employment and apprenticeships in the maintenance trades.

Residential and Building Maintenance

Modules:
Wall Repair
Clock Hours - 35
Identify tools and materials used in common wall repairs. Demonstrate wall repair techniques including installation, taping, texturing, and painting.
Doors and Windows
Clock Hours - 35
Identify types of doors and windows and their components. Demonstrate the installation of standard interior and exterior doors and windows. Perform maintenance and repairs of doors, windows, and hardware.
Maintenance Electric
Clock Hours - 35
Understand the components of electrical distribution system. Explain electrical units of measure and series/parallel circuits. Demonstrate safe and proper use of multi-meters. Perform installation and repair of basic electrical circuits.
Service Plumbing
Clock Hours - 70
Understand the components of water supply and wastewater systems. Troubleshoot and repair various piping, valves, waste water blockages. Perform repairs on fixtures, faucets, and water heaters.
Appliance Repair
Clock Hours - 35
Explain proper operation of basic appliances (dishwasher, refrigerator, washer, dryer, garbage disposal, and range). Removing and installing new appliances. Troubleshooting appliance issues and repair.
