Official Title: Proficiency in Survival Craft (ALAVTC-372)
U.S. Coast Guard and STCW Approved Class - one week
This Proficiency in Survival Craft Course is approved by the United States Coast Guard and meets the requirements for an STCW endorsement. This four-day course includes theory, practical training and assessments utilizing AVTEC’s motorized lifeboat and training davit. Warm clothing and rain gear is recommended for outdoor assessment days.
Proficiency in Survival Craft is designed for students working aboard ships equipped with lifeboats and inflatable life rafts in the maritime industry. This course prepares mariners to launch and operate survival craft found on a variety of large and small vessels. This course is a requirement for National Able Seafarer (formerly Able Seaman) or an STCW Able Seafarer-Deck endorsement.
Any applicant who has successfully completed this course will satisfy:

The Lifeboatman training, practical demonstration, and written examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.407(b)(3) for endorsement as Lifeboatman; AND

The Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC) Standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.613; AND,

The Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC) Standards of competence required by Section A-VI/2 and Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessments Guidelines from NVIC 04-14 Tasks 1.1.A, 1.2.A, 1.3.A, 1.3.B, 1.3.C, 1.3.D, 1.4.A, 1.4.C, 1.5.A, 1.6.A, 1.8.A, 1.9.A, 2.1.A, 3.1.A, 3.1.B, 3.2.A, 3.3.A, 3.4.A, 3.5.A, 3.5.B, 3.6.A, 3.7.A, 3.8.A, 4.1.A, 4.1.B, 4.2.A.
Prerequisites Successful completion of a Basic Training course in the past 5 years, or continued competency. 180 days of documented sea service is recommended prior to enrolling in this course. 180 days of sea service must be completed prior to National Maritime Center endorsement issuance.
