Welcome From the Director
Welcome to the Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC), where opportunity meets determination. Whether you’re stepping onto our campus for the first time or returning to build on your skills, you’ve made a powerful choice to invest in your future. At AVTEC, our mission is simple but transformative: to empower Alaskans with the skills and training needed to launch rewarding careers - all in less than a year.
Since our founding in 1969, AVTEC has been a cornerstone of workforce development in Alaska. Created in response to the demand for skilled workers following the discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay, we began as the Alaska Skills Center. Over the decades, we’ve evolved to meet the changing needs of Alaska’s industries. In 2003, our integration into the Department of Labor and Workforce Development solidified our role as a dynamic, state-operated technical training center, uniquely positioned to adapt quickly to emerging labor market trends.
What makes AVTEC truly special is our ability to provide focused, hands-on training tailored to real-world careers. Whether your goal is to embark on a new career path or to enhance your skills in a current field, our programs are designed with your success in mind. Our commitment to excellence and industry relevance ensures that an AVTEC education opens doors to opportunity and empowers you to achieve your goals.
As you begin or continue your journey with us, know that you are part of a legacy of resilience, innovation, and success. AVTEC is here to support you - not just as a student, but as a future leader in Alaska’s workforce.
Welcome to the AVTEC family. Your future starts here.
