CT1121 Introduction to Carpentry

Students learn the importance of safety in industry and safety obligations of workers, supervisors and managers. Students learn to follow safe work procedures, including PPE use, working with hazardous chemicals and identifying potential construction hazards. They perform basic mathematical functions and explore their applications to the construction trades and learn to use and read various length measurement tools as well as basic geometry as applied to common construction shapes and forms.

This course introduces the common building materials used in construction work and explores proper materials handling techniques and procedures. In this course, students identify and safely use hand tools and explain specific applications and important safety and maintenance issues related to each tool. Students learn to recognize hazards associated with materials handling and how to use ropes, chains, hoists, and cranes to move material and equipment. They describe inspection techniques and load-handling safety practices, reviewing American National Standards Institute (ANSI) hand signals. Students describe the common fasteners and adhesives used in construction work and demonstrate the methods of squaring a building.
CT1140 Construction Prints and Drawings

This course teaches basic terms for construction drawings, components, and symbols and explains different types of drawings. Students learn how to interpret and use drawing dimensions and read and interpret residential construction drawings and specifications. They generate basic commercial material take-offs and identify, read, and interpret different types of drawings and their uses.
CT1150 Intro to Electricity

This course explores and applies basic NEC residential codes. Students install basic circuitry, receptacles, switches, and circuit breakers and make electrical calculations using Ohms law.
CT1161 Concrete

This course prepares students to understand the properties, characteristics, and uses of concrete, including curing methods. Students estimate concrete volume, perform slump tests on freshly mixed concrete, and identify tools, equipment, and procedures for handling, placing, and finishing concrete. Students identify basic joints made in concrete structures and follow safety procedures for handling, placing, and finishing concrete.
CT1170 Framing

In this course, students lay out and assemble wood floor systems, wood wall systems and rafter and truss-built roof systems using common lumber or engineered building materials. They generate both material takeoff and cut lists for all the system types.

In this course, students identify components that are part of steel and shingle roof covering systems and install steel and composite shingle roof coverings.
CT1190 Exterior Finish

This course teaches the components and installation of building envelope systems and soffit and fascia systems used in residential buildings. Students learn to identify and install common residential siding types and metal siding used in residential construction.
CT1200 Thermal and Moisture Protection

This course teaches students to identify types of insulating materials used in walls, floors, and attics and install fiberglass batt insulation in walls, floors, and attics. Students also learn about and install vapor barriers and waterproofing materials.
CT1210 Stairs

In this course students identify the various types of stairs and their components and follow common building code requirements related to stairs. Students calculate and cut basic stair stringers.
CT1220 Interior Finish

This course teaches students to install and finish drywall on walls and ceilings with hand finishing tools using nails, drywall screws, and/or adhesives. Students also identify basic cabinetmaking tools and hardware and construct basic cabinets, design basic cabinet layout and install basic base cabinets, wall cabinets, and countertops. Students identify and install common types of trim and moldings used in interior finish work and install interior doors.
