Identify various makes and models of diesel engines; explain diesel engine operation; demonstrate basic repair practices; disassemble engine assemblies, clean, inspect and measure all parts for wear using manufacturer’s specifications; measure or replace valves/valve guides; inspect crankshafts; replace engine bearings and measure clearance; install cylinder liners; fit pistons to connecting rods; install piston rings; install gaskets and seals; assemble engine and all associated parts; test run and adjust engine to specifications; diagnose various engine failures.

DH1202 Hydraulic Systems

This course teaches hydraulic principles. Students are taught to identify and explain the operation of hydraulic components. They are introduced to how to interpret hydraulic schematics as well as how to diagnose hydraulic system failures and demonstrate safe service procedures.

Describe the design and operation of air and hydraulic brake systems; identify and explain the operation of brake foundation components; diagnose brake failures in hydraulic and air brake systems; demonstrate proper service procedures for mobile equipment hydraulic and air brakes.
DH1222 Tire Repair

This course explores the history and development of tires and rims. Students learn tire handling safety, how to tell the dimensions and tire compound by utilizing the P-metric system. They will remove and reinstall tires by hand and by utilizing a tire machine. After the installation they learn how to balance utilizing a tire balancer. They learn the procedures of how to install tire patches for tire repairs with both on-highway and off-highway machines.
DH1231 Steering and Suspension

This course teaches the different types of steering components with on-highway and off-highway systems, as well as the failures that come with each system. Students will learn the principles of power steering, alignment and alignment angles. Students will learn how to perform alignments and how to use the alignment machine to troubleshoot possible steering problems. Students will learn how today’s equipment utilizes different suspensions for the greatest comfort and to obtain peak performance. They will learn single axle and multiple axle suspension systems. The students will remove and replace steering gear boxes, leaf suspension, and air bag suspension.
DH1242 Drivetrain

This course explores the reason and purpose of all the drivetrain components. Students will know how to perform proper maintenance and discuss what could happen without proper maintenance. The student will remove and replace a driveline, differentials and axles. Students will be introduced to vehicle frames and different types of trailers.
DH1251 Transmissions

This course covers the various types of transmissions. We discuss how to remove and replace manual and automatic transmissions. The students also break down an automatic transmission. We cover the purpose and different designs of clutches and torque converters, as well as how to perform the proper procedures on how to adjust the clutch system.
DH1262 Undercarriage

This course explains the purpose of having tracked vehicles. The students will learn the proper way to place vehicles on jackstands. The students will remove and replace the track, final drives, balance beam, track tensioner, and the swing frame.
DH1275 Electrical/Electronic Systems

This course introduces students to how electrical systems operate, as well as how to troubleshoot and repair components. We start with basic electrical theory, and how to measure volts, ampere and Ohms with multimeters. The students get to disassemble multiple starters and alternators in order to test what components failed. The students then go into basic circuits to complex circuits and how to read schematics. With that basic knowledge, we move into the troubleshooting process and how to test sensors and components for serviceability. The students get practice removing and replacing major components like starters, batteries and alternators on both on-highway and off-highway equipment. We finish out the class by troubleshooting and recording maintenance using the JPRO diagnostic system.
DH1282 HVAC Systems

This course introduces students to the process of performing HVAC system inspection and performance checks. They are taught how to diagnose failures in HVAC systems using pressure and temperature readings. They are also taught how to determine the location of refrigerant leaks. They are taught the importance of scan tools for HVAC diagnosis and will be educated on the correct operation of a recovery, recycle and recharge (RRR) machine. They will also receive training to obtain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 609 certification for the handling of refrigerants.
