Basic Training Revalidation is an assessment course to demonstrate firefighting proficiencies and survival skills in the pool. This course is designed for mariners to maintain Basic Training competencies and is typically required for mariners to renew their credentials every five years.
This course is designed to satisfy the Basic Training continued standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.302(d) and 12.602(d) for mariners who have previously held a Basic Training endorsement under STCW Code Section A-VI/1, provided that the mariner has at least 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years; STCW Code Section A-VI/1 and Tables A-VI/1-1 and 1-2, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 08-14(CH-1) Tasks 1.14.B, 1.14.D, 1.14.E, 1.14.F, 1.14.G, 3.7.A, 3.8.A, 3.8.B, 3.8.C, and 3.8.D. Applicants who have successfully completed this course need not present a complete “Record of Assessment” for these tasks in application for STCW certification.
This course may include some evening hours. Bring comfortable clothing to wear under fire fighting turnout gear and swimming attire for the pool session.
Prerequisites Students must be clean shaven for firefighting assessments and must be able to swim without assistance for the pool session. Students must have a prior Basic Training certification and one year of sea service in the last five years for approval for Basic Training Revalidation. Students must be fit for duty as this course consists of rigorous physical activities which include firefighting and pool assessments.
