Counseling
AVTEC’s counselor is here to assist students in adjusting to and successfully completing their training programs. They help students navigate challenges that may impact training, employment, or personal well-being and refer students to external professionals for specialized, clinical, or confidential support.
Counselors can help students with a range of concerns including homesickness, time management, conflict resolution, relationship difficulties, substance use, depression, anxiety, and financial stress. They also offer practical support such as:
- Understanding and navigating AVTEC policies and procedures
- Guidance on disciplinary actions, appeals, and grievances
- Study strategies and academic support
- Assistance with tasks like obtaining a driver’s license, finding housing or childcare, applying for public assistance, and connecting with employment resources
Privacy and Reporting Responsibilities
AVTEC counselors are designated as private, not confidential, resources. They will respect a student’s privacy but are required to report disclosures related to:
- Sexual misconduct or discrimination
- Abuse or neglect of a minor or vulnerable adult
- Imminent threats to self or others
- Significant violations of the Student Code of Conduct or threats to campus safety
Students will be informed of these limits prior to sharing sensitive information whenever possible. If a student prefers to speak with a fully confidential resource, counselors can assist with referrals to licensed professionals outside AVTEC.
